Alix Lagasse

Belgian violinist Alix Lagasse is currently studying on the Artist Diploma Course at the RCM with Itzhak Rashkovsky as an RCM Scholar. She is also generously being supported by the Drake Calleja Trust, Albert Cooper Trust, the Zetland Foundation, the Royal Society of Musicians, the Lions Club Kortrijk, SWUK Vlaanderen and Help Musicians UK. Just recently in July 2016 Alix completed her Masters Degree at the RCM with distinction. At graduation Alix was awarded the Musicians’ Company Silver Medal for her outstanding musical achievements and her on-going dedication to the RCM.

Alix was selected at the age of 16 to enter the RCM where she completed her Bachelor of Music (Honours) with Natalia Boyarsky in July 2014. She previously studied at the Fontys University of Music Tilburg in the Netherlands. She has participated in masterclasses with musicians including Ana Chumachenco, Zakhar Bron, Maxim Vengerov, Olivier Charlier and Yossif Ivanov.

Alix has won several prizes in international competitions, including First Prize in the UFAM International Violin Competition in Paris, Prix National Edouard Deru Competition, Young Soloists Competition, and Young Tenuto Competition. She became a laureate in the Lions European Musical Competition and won first prize in the Belgian Dexia Classics Competition.

Alix made her concerto debut with the Brabants Orkest and has since then performed with the Orchestre de Chambre de Wallonie, the Kamerorkest van Vlaanderen, the Collegium Instrumentale Brugense, the Oost-Vlaams Kamerorkest and the Essex Young People’s Orchestra. She has given solo recitals across Europe (i.a. UK, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Austria, Finland and Sweden) and the USA in venues such as the Palais des Beaux Arts, Flagey Brussel and the Frits Philips Concert Hall Eindhoven.

In chamber music setting Alix has collaborated with the Henschel Quartet, Borodin Quartet, St. Petersburg Quartet, Talich String Quartet, Chilingirian Quartet, Peter Bruns, Alexander Zemstov, Valentin Erben, Simon-Rowland Jones and Claudio Martinez-Mehner.

She attended the Aurora Festival Sweden, Bowdoin Festival USA, Encuentro de Musica y Academia Santander, the Castleton Festival USA and the Musica Mundi Festival Belgium.

A keen orchestral player, Alix has most recently been awarded the Philharmonia Orchestra MMSF Fellowship 2016. She toured Europe during the summer of 2016 with the Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester with performances in amongst others the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Konzerthaus Berlin and at the BBC Proms. In 2015-2016 she was a member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra Future Firsts Scheme. During 2014-2015 she was a member of the LSO String Experience Scheme and the European Union Youth Orchestra. She regularly features as concertmaster or section leader with RCM ensembles, including RCM Symphony Orchestra and RCM Philharmonic. She has worked with conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Philippe Jordan, Daniel Harding and Jaap Van Zweden to name but a few. Alix also feels very privileged to have worked under the baton of the late Lorin Maazel, who fired her love for orchestral performance.
